«I always live with Love»
More than a year has passed since our last interview with Sarkhan Sarkhan. It is rather a long period for the actor, and specially for such fruitful. The creative work of Sarkhan Sarkhan, the singer and composer is in writing new songs, recording albums, going on tours to the CIS countries, and becoming frequent, now, concerts in Baku.
-Each singer has his specific targets in his creative work, for achievement of some of them the whole life is, sometimes, not enough. Probably, for this reason I always set the real targets for myself, that I can afford. As for the changes that have taken place for the time passed, I may say that if, before, I was not quite certain about my work in Baku, now everything is quite specific in this respect. I have recorded many new songs, inspired the new life in some of my old songs that are most liked by my audience. Moreover, I have brought modern equipment from Moscow and equipped my own studio, I have arranged the master class on the variety art mastership, and having gathered the talented creative young people around me I successfully collaborate with them. You might have noticed, that I perform with the vocal group comprised of two talented singers, Dinara Aliyeva and Emil Aliyev. I am sure, that I have to pass the knowledge once received from such outstanding musicians, as maestro Niyazi, Tofiq Kuliuev, Rashid Beybutov and Leonid Utesov to the next generations. In this case the real classic variety art will live forever.
-What, to your opinion, is the difference between the canons of classic variety art and what we often hear today?
-To my mind, the people miss beautiful melodies. There was the time, when the variety art was overwhelmed by the disco music, and many of those who took this bait, began its popularisation. Fortunately, everything returns, always, to the beauty, and people, tired of endless noise of percussion instruments, strive, now, after the real music.
-One of your previous concerts in the Theatre of Song was very unusual in respect of the scenario. However, the recent concert was traditional. And you called it «My Late Love».
-Yes, the former was held in the Europe Plaza hotel, it was the concert of the «Love Melodies», and it was staged as if the event takes place in the cafe where old friends have gathered. I wanted to avoid the standard type of the concert and I think, I had succeeded in it. Even the waiter in the cafe was real waiter and he, by the way, liked his new role. As for my recent concert, «My Late Love», that took place on October 19 in the Shakhriyar Palace, it was participated by my Moscow friends, the «Laiza» show-ballet group. Its program was comprised of several vocal blocks combined with the ballet items. The audience welcomed my new songs warmly, the house was full and the atmosphere was friendly. The name of the concert is not sudden, as it means a lot to me. The point is, that within recent 10 years I gave just few concerts in Baku. Now, the situation has changed, I have new creative plans connected with my stay here. And the name of this song is just the belated declaration of love to my Baku.
-As I understand, you intend to spend more time in Baku now.
-I have always dreamt of the time when I would have been able to live and work in my home town, Baku. During all these years I have lived with the dreams of fifteen-year old teenager who left Baku for Moscow to get his education there and be back to his favourite town, relatives and friends. But the return has, always, been postponed. It is the right time, now, as there is a risk that once being back you will not find alive many of those dear to you, because the life is not everlasting. Having weighted all this I understood that the scale of spiritual values is heavier, and that there are things prevailing all other sides of life.
-They say there is an interesting project with TV Lider.
-I really have plans regarding my participation in the Lider channel, but its too early to speak about anything specific. I am ready to take part in any program, provided it is interesting in respect of the idea and scenario.
-I have heard about your program in the Entertainment Centre. Which of two performances is more difficult: in the club or at the concert?
-I was the artistic manager of the program named «From Capital to Capital» presented in the Entertainment Centre. The «Laiza» group, Dinara, Emil and I, performed jointly there. The «Laiza» group gave their last performance there on October 19 also. They have left Baku already, taking with them the warm feelings connected with our people and town. As for me, I, of course, prefer the concerts to clubs. I may not say which of them is more difficult. I am at such a phase of creative work, now, when these problems do not exist. Thus, for example, I had been recently asked to show a part of this program at the wedding party as a present to the young couple. You know, that at such parties the atmosphere is quite different, i.e., the bright lighting, listeners who are used to the music corresponding to such parties. However, I caught myself at a thought, that it would not be a problem to sing «O, Sola Mia» in such a place. Or, another recent example: I was quite surprised to be requested to come to sing at the wedding party, though my repertoire doesn’t correspond to the event. It is a good sign. It is a signal, that people reconsider their attitude to the music.
-You always speak about your work, while many of your worshipers are interested in the other side of your life.
-Maybe, because my private life was formed not as favourable as I would like it to be. As I have told, already, in my 15, I found myself in a big city, with no relatives or friends. Soon, I reached success followed, naturally, by numerous admirers. Today, looking back at those years, I may say, assuredly, that the feelings should be cherished, they must be focused on her, the single one. I try to observe this golden rule in my current life.
-To my mind, it is too early for you to speak about yourself in such a melancholy tone.
-Love is a dream, and it is possible that it may not come true, though I cannot deny completely the chance, that Lord may suddenly grant me with this feeling. My love lives in me constantly, it is like a stem for my creative work to be based on. Is it possible to write and sing about love, not feeling and not dreaming of it? Probably, each of us is waiting for this feeling till his last breath, because this is the way the people are.
Azerbaijan’s history on pages of the Bible
Azerbaijan is one of few countries of the world, the history of which is reflected on the pages of the Holy Bible. And it is not just mentioning or a reference; the entire chapters of the Bible, such as the books of Daniel, Ezdra, Neemy, Esther, and others narrate about events, actively participated by the founders of our ancient statehood.
This period is marked in the text-books on the history of Azerbaijan as the period of the Midiyan Power. It is known, for example, that Midiya in 612 B.C. invaded Ninevia, the capital of Assyria, this «den of lions», horrifying with its cruelty and aggression the surrounding world for a long time. From that moment, Assyria, forever disappears, as the state, from the arena of the world history. The Bible evaluates this event of the world history, characterising this victory as the triumph of justice. (Book of Naum 3:1) «Woe is the town of blood! It is full of fraud and slaughter... (3:7) Ninevia has been destroyed. Who will feel sorry for it ?(3:19)»... «Everyone hearing the news about you will applaud to you, for, who has not been continuously affected by malice of yours?»
Other details are of interest, also. We may learn, that the Midiyan army wore, mainly, red clothes.
(Book of Naum 2:3) «The shield of its heroes is red, the soldiers are dressed in crimson clothes; the chariots glare with fire on the day of preparation for the battle, and the forest of lances is rising». This, obviously, was connected with the Midians’ religion, Zoroastrism, where the red colour personified the fire and the sun, the attributes of the god of the light, Ahur Mazda (Ormuzd).
The evidence of history is extremely important for the historical geography of Azerbaijan. Midiya brought the new, more perfect order to the peoples. The understanding of statehood by ancient Azerbaijan absolutely differed from the despotically cruel style of Assyrian empire. The study of this particular aspect may help our understanding of the mentality of our national thinking in historical aspect.
In 538 B.C. Babylon was also invaded by Midiya. And from that time the New Babylon Power also disappeared. And, again, Midiya acts here as the tool of the divine Providence.
Isaiya(13:19) «Babylon, the beauty of the realm, the pride of Haldeys, will be overthrown by God as Sodom and Gomorra». (13:17) «Here, I will raise against them the Midiyans, who do not value the silver and do not treat gold with partiality», God says by the lips of the prophet.
This remark means, that Midiya waged war not for the sake of gold, but for the reign of Zoroastrizm, it was the war against Vaal, Marduk, Ninurt and others idols of Asian pantheon that were prayed to in Assyria, Urartu and Babylon. We meet this idea of divine Midiya’s mission in the book of Daniel, describing the famous scene of feast in the palace of Baltazar, the Babylonian tsar.
A bit tight, the tsar orders to bring from the treasure-house into hall the Holy vessels, that had been taken by his father Navukhodonosor from the Jerusalem temple. Baltazar toasted to his Babylonian gods and his nobles, wives and concubines drunk from these vessels. (Dan. 5:4) «They drunk the vine and sung the praises of golden, silver, copper, iron and stone gods».
Suddenly a hand appears in the air (God’s finger) and writes a text on the wall, and Daniel translate it to the tsar as follows: (Dan. 5:28)-«... your realm has been divided between the Midiyans and Persians. (5:30, 31) «The same night, Baltazar, the Haldey’s tsar was killed. And Dary Midian accepted the reign at his age of 62».
This biblical message is very interesting. In any case, our historical geography knows nothing about this Dary Midiyan. According to our historical geography, Midiya was concurred by Persian reign before the Babylon was invaded. And Babylon was invaded by Persian tsar, Kir. But, as we see now, it is not confirmed by the Bible. This version deserves thorough consideration, also, because Daniel was absolutely real person. He occupied the highest posts in the court in the times of the Mido-Persia tsars. He also tells us, that at that time Mido-Persian Power was comprised of 120 satrapies, and each 40 of them were controlled by prince.
It should be noted, that biblical perception of Midiya may, essentially, change our vision of history of Azerbaijan.
